
MINISTER ASSURES UNILORIN OF ASSISTANCE WITH DAM EXPANSION AND RETICULATION
Following the request of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olusupo Egbewole, SAN, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has pledged support for the UNILORIN Dam expansion and reticulation project!
During a special visit to our campus last Friday (October 6, 2023), the Minister inaugurated a solar-powered borehole donated to our university by the Lower Niger River Basin.
The minister, who was accompanied by the Kwara State Commissioner of Water Resources, Hon. Usman Lade, the Director, RB Operations & Inspection, FMWR & S, Mr. Joh Adoyi Ochigbo, Managing Director, Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Dr. Adeniyi Saheed Aremu, amongst others, was received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Folorunsho Ambali, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.
In his remarks, Professor Utsev said that the ministry will continue to provide Nigerians with access to clean and potable water, and that the intervention at UNILORIN is part of the ministry’s efforts to achieve this goal.
He commended the management of UNILORIN for their commitment to the development of the university, and assured them of the ministry’s continued support.
The Vice Chancellor, in his response, thanked the minister for the donation of the solar power borehole and for his assurance of assistance with the expansion and reticulation of the UNILORIN Dam.
He said that the university is committed to ‘Use the Toilet’ campaign of the Ministry which aims to end open defecation in Nigeria by 2025 and increase access to improved sanitation and hygiene practices.
Other members of the UNILORIN management team who received the minister include the representative of the Registrar, Mrs Mary Olayemi, the University Librarian, Dr. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, the Bursar representative, Mr David Gbadeyan, the Director of Works, Engr. Ramoni Kolawole Amoo, and the Acting Director of Physical Planning Unit, QS Toyin Jimoh.
