PROF. O. G AKINDOJU IS ELECTED AS LASU’S NEW DEAN FACULTY OF EDUCATION


On July 22, 2024, the Faculty of Education at Lagos State University held an election to determine the new Dean of the Faculty, following the end of Prof. Solomon Makinde’s term as Dean. The election was conducted by secret ballot, with faculty members present to cast their votes.

At around 1:30pm today, the election result was released, declaring Prof. Oluwagbenga Gabriel AKINDOJU the winner and the new Dean of the Faculty of Education at Lagos State University.

 

PROFILE OF PROF. O. G AKINDOJU

Olugbenga Gabriel Akindoju was born in the mid Sixties to the family of Pa S. R. Akindoju of Ondo Kingdom, in Ondo State.
He started his primary education career at St. Joseph CAC Primary School, Oke-Isegun Street, Ondo, and completed it at St Peters’ RCM Primary School, Odoragunshin, Epe, Lagos State. He proceeded to St Patrick’s Grammar School, Odoragunshin – Eredo, also in Epe Division of Lagos State.
He attended Lagos State University for his tertiary education and had a brief stay at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta for a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science
He had his First, Masters and Doctoral Degrees respectively at the prestigious Lagos State University. He joined the university as an academic staff in 2005 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to become the first Professor of Computer Education in 2021.
Prof. Akindoju was a member of the University ICT Committee from 2016 – 2021,
He has severed as a member, and secretary of the Faculty Consultancy committee for many years, member, and Chairman of the Faculty Teaching Practice Committee
He served as the Sub Dean, Faculty of Education from 2015 – 2020
He is currently the Head of Department, Science and Technology Education, Lagos State University from September 2022 to Date.
Professor Olugbenga Akindoju has supervised over one hundred and fifty First Degree Projects, more than 40 PGDE and Masters’ Degree Dissertations, and 8 PhD Thesis in the University.
He has worked as a consultant on Educational Projects and Interventions with NERDC, UBEC, WAEC, UNESCO, USAID, DFID, and the World Bank.

• Development of Instructional Materials Guide for Teachers, Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council
(NERDC)
• Development of Teachers’ Guide for the implementation of revised Information technology Curriculum, Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC)
• Assessment of m-Learning E-Resource Materials, Nigeria Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC)
• USAID COMPASS- Review of Monitoring & Evaluation Systems in the Education Sector in Lagos State.
• Teacher Labour Market Study in Lagos State: Implication for Management and Policy Making. Abuja: LEAP/USAID Project Report.
• LEAP/USAID Project – Teacher Management; Recruitment, Deployment and Retention in Lagos State Nigeria
• National Capacity Building of LEAD Teacher Training Institution in Sub- Saharan Africa UNESCO-Paris
• World Bank Project – Secondary Education Sector Study in Lagos State.
• World Bank – Lagos EKO Secondary Education project: Capacity Building Programme for Secondary School Teachers and Administrators
Prof Akindoju is a member of Learned Societies such as:

Prof Akindoju, Olugbenga Gabriel is married with children.
