LASU 2026 FRESHERS: BEFORE YOU RESUME, KNOW WHAT COMES NEXT
Just gained admission into Lagos State University (LASU)? Congratulations!
Getting your LASU admission is a major milestone, but your admission is only the beginning of your journey.
For many newly admitted students, the period after admission can be confusing. You may be asking:
What exactly should I do when I resume?
When will faculty and departmental registration begin?
What if my LACACA is not yet at 20%?
What documents will I need for physical clearance?
When will lectures start?
This article breaks down what LASU freshers should know as they prepare for the 2026/2027 academic session.
1. RESUMPTION ON OCTOBER 2 DOES NOT MEAN REGISTRATION STARTS THAT SAME DAY
One important thing every fresher needs to understand is that resumption and registration are not necessarily the same thing.
New students are scheduled to resume from October 2, 2026, but this does not mean every faculty and department will begin physical registration on that exact day.
Your faculty and department will communicate the specific arrangements, dates and venues for your registration.
So, if you resume on October 2 and you are not immediately asked to report to your department for registration, do not panic.
Resume as required, settle down and stay updated.
Pay attention to information coming from:
LASU management
Your faculty
Your department
Official student communication channels
Other verified university platforms
Do not rely solely on information forwarded on WhatsApp.
2. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOU RESUME?
If this is your first time coming to LASU, use the early resumption period to understand your new environment.
Locate:
1. Your faculty
2. Your departmentYour faculty office
3. Your departmental office
4. Relevant student service points
5. Important lecture venues
6. Reliable sources of official information
If you are coming from outside Lagos, this is also a good opportunity to settle your accommodation and transportation arrangements.
You don't want to wait until lectures begin before trying to figure out where your faculty or department is located.
3. WHAT IF YOUR LACACA HAS NOT REACHED 20%?
This is one of the major concerns among LASU freshers.
If your LACACA has not reached 20%, don't immediately conclude that something is wrong with your admission.
However, you should take the process seriously and continue monitoring your portal.
Make sure the required documents have been submitted correctly and keep checking for updates.
Also remember that students' clearance processes may not all progress at exactly the same time.
Therefore, don't constantly compare your LACACA percentage with another student's own.
If you have a genuine issue with your clearance, seek clarification through the appropriate channels.
4. PHYSICAL CLEARANCE: FACULTY AND DEPARTMENTAL CLEARANCE
This is an area every fresher should prepare for.
Physical clearance comes after resumption, and students should wait to be notified by the relevant school, faculty or departmental authorities before going for the exercise.
In other words, don't assume that because you have resumed on October 2, you must immediately report to your faculty office for physical clearance.
Wait for the appropriate communication.
However, you can start preparing your documents now so that you are not caught unprepared when the clearance exercise begins.
DOCUMENTS TO PREPARE FOR PHYSICAL CLEARANCE
Freshers should prepare the following documents as applicable:
1. O'LEVEL RESULT
You should have a copy of your O'Level result and be ready to present the original O'Level result when required.
This may include WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or another accepted O'Level qualification.
If you need assistance with obtaining your WAEC certificate or properly documenting your result, DeeSwift Consults can assist you.
2. JAMB ADMISSION LETTER
Have a copy of your official JAMB admission letter available.
3. ORIGINAL JAMB RESULT
You should also have your JAMB result available as required.
4. IIVC
For Lagos State indigenes, have your IIVC documentation available where applicable.
5. UNDERTAKING LETTER
You may be required to provide an undertaking letter as part of your clearance documentation.
If you need assistance with the proper preparation/documentation of this, DeeSwift Consults can guide you.
6. ADMISSION SCREENING REPORT
Keep your LASU admission screening report safely.
7. ACCEPTANCE LETTER
Your acceptance letter should also be kept ready.
Note: This is connected to the stage after you have obtained your matriculation number, so don't panic if you cannot access it immediately.
8. CLEARANCE SCREENING REPORT
This is particularly important.
The clearance screening report is obtained after you have successfully completed your clearance process and reached the required completion stage.
So, you do not need to start panicking about this document before completing your LACACA clearance.
9. PAYMENT RECEIPTS
Keep receipts/proof of all relevant payments you have made.
For example:
Acceptance fee
Medical fee
School fees
Other official payments applicable to you
It is advisable to keep both printed copies and digital copies of important receipts.
10. SWORN AFFIDAVIT OF GOOD CONDUCT
This is another document students may be required to provide.
You will receive information on how and where to obtain it when you resume, so there is no need to panic or rush to obtain it before the appropriate instruction.
11. LETTER OF ATTESTATION
A letter of attestation from your church or mosque may also be required.
If you have difficulty getting one or need guidance on the proper documentation, DeeSwift Consults can assist with the process.
12. ANTICULT OATH FORM
Students may also be required to complete the relevant anti-cult oath documentation.
You should follow the instructions provided by the school regarding where and how to obtain/complete this document or message 07032132832 for proper enlightenments.
13. BIRTH CERTIFICATE / DECLARATION OF AGE
Keep your birth certificate or other officially accepted proof of age ready.
14. PASSPORT PHOTOGRAPHS
It is advisable to have at least 12 recent passport photographs available.
Don't wait until the last minute before looking for passport photographs.
IMPORTANT: MAKE PHOTOCOPIES
One of the smartest things you can do before resuming is to prepare photocopies of your documents.
Make at least 3 photocopies of each major document where practical.
Also keep your original documents safe.
You should have:
Originals + photocopies + digital backups.
For digital copies, you can scan the documents and keep them securely on your phone, email or cloud storage.
This can save you from unnecessary stress when different offices request copies.
5. WHEN WILL FACULTY AND DEPARTMENTAL REGISTRATION BEGIN?
This is another question many freshers are asking.
The exact arrangement will be communicated by the relevant faculty and department.
Don't assume that because someone in another faculty has started registration, your own faculty must also have started.
Different faculties and departments may communicate their schedules differently.
When your faculty or department announces registration, read the instructions carefully.
Find out:
Where you are expected to report
The date and time
Documents required
Whether photocopies are needed
Whether payment receipts are required
Any forms you need to complete
Any other faculty/department-specific requirements
6. WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT BETWEEN OCTOBER 2 AND OCTOBER 23?
The period between October 2 and October 23 should be viewed as an important transition period for new students.
You may have different activities involving:
Orientation
You may receive information about freshers' orientation and introduction to university life.
Faculty activities
Your faculty may begin communicating important information about registration and other requirements.
Departmental activities
Your department may also begin communicating directly with newly admitted students.
Documentation and clearance
Students may begin going through the necessary processes once the relevant authorities communicate the arrangements.
Settling into campus
This is also your opportunity to understand your faculty, department, campus environment and academic expectations.
7. WHEN WILL LECTURES START?
According to the academic calendar, lectures for the new academic session are scheduled to begin on October 26, 2026.
This means you should not treat the period before October 26 as wasted time.
Use it to get yourself properly prepared.
By the time lectures begin, you should ideally have:
Settled your accommodation
Understood your route to school
Located your faculty and department
Organised your documents
Joined relevant official communication platforms
Started getting familiar with your course
Understood how your department communicates with students
8. DON'T PANIC BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE'S PROCESS IS MOVING FASTER
This is something every fresher needs to hear.
Your friend's LACACA may be progressing faster than yours.
Another student may already have received information that you haven't received.
Someone else may have completed a particular process before you.
Don't automatically assume that your own admission is in trouble.
The most important thing is to follow your own process, meet the requirements applicable to you and seek clarification when necessary.
9. KEEP YOUR DOCUMENTS SAFE
Your documents are extremely important.
Don't give your original certificates or important documents to random people.
When an original document is required, take it along, present it to the appropriate authority and keep it safely afterwards.
Also avoid sending sensitive documents to unverified WhatsApp numbers simply because someone claims to be a "LASU agent."
Always confirm who you are dealing with.

The next few weeks will involve several processes, announcements and activities.
You don't have to know everything on your first day.
You don't have to panic because your friend's portal looks different.
And you don't have to rush into paying anyone because you heard that something is happening.
