According to him,”The alarming avalanche of obviously false affidavits and upsurge of doctored upward age-adjustments on NIN slips being submitted to JAMB to upgrade recorded age is dangerous, inimical and unnecessary.”
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reaffirmed its policy of not admitting candidates under 16 years of age for the 2024/2025 academic session. This decision aligns with the directive from the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, who mandated that candidates below the age of 16 should not be admitted into tertiary institutions, particularly universities. Additionally, starting from the 2025 session, only candidates who are at least 18 years old will be considered for admission, following a directive issued during the 2024 National Policy Meeting.
At a recent press conference held at JAMB's national headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, speaking on behalf of the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, emphasized that candidates must be at least 16 years old at the time of admission for the 2024 cycle. This policy is part of an effort to standardize the age requirements across educational institutions and prevent the submission of falsified age documents, which have become increasingly prevalent.
The board's strict enforcement of these age criteria aims to uphold the integrity of the admissions process and ensure compliance with national education policies. JAMB urges candidates and parents to adhere to these guidelines and avoid submitting fraudulent documents, as doing so is considered dangerous and unnecessary.
