FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PARTNERS AMAZON TO TRAIN LECTURERS AND STUDENTS IN DIGITAL SKILLS

The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy to launch a nationwide digital skills development programme targeting Nigerian educators and students in tertiary institutions.

The initiative, which supports the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), is designed to equip lecturers and students with cutting-edge competencies in cloud computing, machine learning, and other emerging technologies.

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, described the programme as “timely and transformative,” stating that it will help bridge the gap between academic learning and the demands of the global digital economy. “We are preparing our students and educators to compete globally,” he said.

The pilot phase has already seen the onboarding of coordinators from 43 federal universities and polytechnics. With its expansion, the programme now includes federal, state, and private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Heads of institutions have been directed to nominate programme coordinators who will manage lecturer training and student participation. To ensure full access, the Ministry will cover 50 percent of certification costs, while AWS will provide the remaining 50 percent making certification completely free for all participants.

Interested institutions are expected to register through the Ministry’s official portal at: https://forms.gle/RABJuj7Ct7rrpwP1A. The next phase of onboarding is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks.

The Ministry urged institutions to register early, describing the programme as a “groundbreaking step toward democratizing access to digital education.”

Stakeholders have hailed the partnership as a strategic move to position Nigeria’s education sector for the future and ensure that both students and educators are not left behind in the global digital transformation.
