LASU’S NEW VC, PROF. AYODEJI BADEJO, ASSUMES OFFICE, PLEDGES OPEN-DOOR LEADERSHIP
Lagos State University (LASU) has officially ushered in a new chapter in its leadership with the assumption of office of Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the University’s 10th Substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Professor Badejo formally took over the leadership of the institution on Monday, September 21, 2026, succeeding the administration of Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello.
Speaking during her assumption of office, the new Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in her by the University community and other stakeholders.
She also outlined some of the principles that will guide her administration, including an open-door leadership approach, academic excellence, inclusivity, innovation, accountability and good governance.
According to the new Vice-Chancellor, the continued progress of LASU will require the collective efforts of management, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders.
Her administration is expected to place strong emphasis on people-centred leadership while pursuing the advancement of the University’s academic programmes, research activities, infrastructure and overall institutional development.
The change in leadership also marks the conclusion of Professor Olatunji-Bello’s tenure as Vice-Chancellor. Her administration leaves behind a number of institutional developments and reforms upon which the new administration is expected to build.
Members of the LASU community, including staff and students, have welcomed Professor Badejo to office, with expectations that the new administration will sustain the University’s growth while introducing fresh ideas and initiatives.
As Professor Badejo begins her tenure, attention will now turn to how her administration translates its stated commitments to openness, excellence, innovation and accountability into policies and measurable developments across the University.
For LASU students, prospective students, staff and other stakeholders, the new administration represents another phase in the University’s continuing evolution and its pursuit of academic and institutional excellence.
