The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced measures to assist candidates who have lost access to the phone number or email address linked to their JAMB profile.
The development is expected to provide relief for candidates who have been unable to access important JAMB services because they no longer have access to the GSM number or email address originally used on their profiles.
According to information currently circulating regarding the new arrangement, candidates may be able to request changes to their registered contact details, including their GSM number, email address, or both, subject to JAMB's verification and authentication procedures.
What Candidates Need to Know
Losing access to a JAMB-registered phone number has traditionally created difficulties because the number is closely tied to several JAMB services and transactions.
JAMB's official guidelines state that a candidate's registered mobile number serves as a unique identifier and that candidates are expected to safeguard it. The Board has also previously advised candidates to retrieve lost SIM cards where possible.
In addition, JAMB has officially introduced a Profiled Email service designed to provide an alternative for candidates who have lost access to their registered SIM.
Under the Profiled Email procedure, an affected candidate is required to visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre and request the relevant template, identified by JAMB as TEMPL 006. The candidate provides available details such as their registration number, phone number and profile code, together with a new email address that has not previously been used on the JAMB platform.
The completed and signed template is then processed and uploaded by an authorised CBT official. The new email address must subsequently be authenticated before the candidate's JAMB profile can be updated.
What Can the Profiled Email Service Help Candidates Do?
Once the new email has been successfully authenticated and linked to the candidate's profile, JAMB's documentation indicates that candidates can regain access to several profile-related services.
These include functions such as:
Password reset
RESEND services
Result-related services
e-PIN-related services
Access to notifications and other profile information
JAMB's documentation also indicates that a Messages section can serve as an alternative channel for notifications that would ordinarily have been delivered through SMS to the lost SIM.
Candidates Should Not Rush to Change Their Details
Although the reported new SIM Swap/eMail Change arrangement is expected to make it easier for affected candidates to recover access to their JAMB profiles, candidates should not give their JAMB profile details, passwords, OTPs or other sensitive information to unauthorised individuals.
JAMB specifically advises candidates to keep their registration details, passwords, email addresses and e-PINs confidential.
Candidates should also use JAMB-approved channels and accredited CBT centres whenever they need assistance with profile-related issues.
For official enquiries and complaints, JAMB provides its Candidate Support/Ticketing system and publishes the contact details of its offices nationwide.
What This Means for Candidates
The development could be particularly useful to candidates who:
Lost the SIM card used for JAMB registration;
Can no longer access their registered phone number;
Lost access to the email connected to their JAMB profile;
Need to recover access to important JAMB services; or
