LASU TAKES DELIVERY OF 10MW SOLAR MINI-GRID PROJECT FROM TETFund

Lagos State University (LASU) has received a 10MW Mini Solar Grid Project from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), in a major development aimed at strengthening electricity supply across the university.

The project was formally handed over at the project site located between the LASU International School and the Faculty of Management Sciences. The ceremony brought together members of the university management, TETFund officials, project consultants, Ammah Contractors Limited and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of LASU, Prof. Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo, described the solar project as an important investment that could support the university’s academic, research and technological development.

According to the Vice Chancellor, beyond providing electricity, the facility could serve as a practical environment for research and training in areas such as renewable energy, energy storage, smart-grid management, artificial intelligence and environmental sustainability.

She also noted that the project could create opportunities for technical training, internships and collaborations between LASU and relevant industries.

TETFund EXPLAINS PROJECT'S IMPORTANCE

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) and Director of Special Interventions, Prof. Oseni Afisi, commended TETFund and the consultants involved in the project for the assessments and consultations carried out before its implementation.

He emphasised that a stable electricity supply remains essential to effective teaching, learning and research activities within tertiary institutions.

Representing the Executive Secretary of TETFund, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Arch. Babatunde Olajide, explained that the project forms part of the Fund's broader intervention aimed at addressing electricity challenges in Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.

He disclosed that LASU was selected under Lot 6 of the 2025 TETFund intervention cycle, with the project expected to provide dependable power for critical
