The management of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has directed students to temporarily suspend registration for the NELFUND student loan scheme for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The directive was contained in a notice signed by the University's NELFUND Desk Officer, Nene Christopher Ben.
According to the notice, the suspension is necessary because the university has not yet officially commenced the 2026/2027 academic session, while the newly approved schedule of school charges and fees is still being finalised.
The updated fee structure has also not yet been uploaded to the NELFUND portal.
WHY STUDENTS SHOULD WAIT
The university management cautioned students against proceeding with registration using the previous fee structure.
It explained that submitting applications based on outdated charges could create challenges during the verification and loan disbursement processes, which may in turn affect the approval of eligible students' applications.
As a result, UNIUYO's NELFUND portal will be temporarily deactivated to prevent students from registering with incorrect or outdated fee information.
WHEN WILL REGISTRATION RESUME?
Students have been assured that the university will issue a fresh announcement when the 2026/2027 academic session officially begins and the approved fee structure has been uploaded to the NELFUND platform.
Students are therefore advised to wait for further instructions from the university rather than attempting to register at this time.
UNIUYO management urged students to strictly comply with the directive and disregard any information that contradicts the official announcement.
Students are encouraged to rely on official university communication channels for updates regarding the reopening of the NELFUND registration portal.
Swift School News will continue to provide verified updates on NELFUND, university admissions, school fees and other important developments affecting Nigerian students.
